Fresh48 Prep Guide

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING ME TO BE A PART OF THIS MOST PRECIOUS TIME IN YOUR LIFE.

I will ask that you try and have the baby fed before I arrive, the room cleaned up if possible and extended family wait elsewhere while I am there photographing. I aim to do fresh 48's around mid-morning generally due to natural light. I will begin as soon as I arrive, so please make sure everyone is dressed, hair done, makeup-up on (if that's your thing) upon my arrival.

Sessions take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, but I never stay longer than that. I know that sleep is so precious, and I really try to minimize how much time I take away from you getting some much-needed rest.

WHAT TO WEAR

This is always one of my most asked questions. People are of course concerned about what to wear for these photos since they will have them and be showing them to friends and family.

My answer is always the same; whatever you are comfortable in, just keep it neutral & simple.

For Dad's, siblings, and anyone else please make sure there are no clashing colors, patterns or graphic t-shirts (big brother/sister stuff is totally okay!). I'm talking about Pokémon shirts, advertising, etc.; you catch my drift! Solid, plain neutrals are always my go to.

MOM & DAD: You are a big part of the show. Photographing the connection between you and your baby is one of my all-time favorite things. Just as they encourage in the hospital, skin to skin contact creates the most beautiful images, so refrain from wearing bulky, loose clothing with long sleeves. Please keep all colors neutral. No reason for Dad to be in a dress shirt (unless he wants to be of course), or big sister to be in a fancy dress.  Please no bright lipstick as it will reflect onto babe's face.

Please take care of these issues before your photos.

  • Nail polish color changes/ heavy peeling removal.
  • heavily wrinkled clothes (I cannot photoshop this)
  • Excessive food or mucus, snot, dirt, milk left on children’s faces.
  • neutral tones are best and photograph nicely.

Each baby is different, so the posing can differ. I may rock, or sway with your baby, rub his eyebrows, use a white noise machine, etc. I want to make sure the energy in the room is always relaxed and calm, with lots of trust. They will occasionally cry- please know that this is never a bother for me. I will use a variety of soothing techniques to make your baby feel safe, secure and warm. Think of me as your babysitter. Baby will never be placed in an unsafe position and newborn safety is my top priority.

I have a very hands-on approach to newborns, and I am very comfortable handling them. I have two daughters myself and have taken safety courses on newborn photography and I will never, ever put your little one at risk.
